In the three lands masses we look at, and the people who are conquered, we see that the three observed there are different takes and acceptance or denials in the mixing of people and their off-springs.
We see in the Spanish conquests of the Aztec and the Inca Empires that the mixing of Spaniards and the native women were more acceptable and we are given the outcome of mestizo, which is mixed-race. Unlike in North America, a woman who bore the child of a Spaniard would not be seen as the lesser of the two races. Spaniard settlers were encouraged to marry Native women. They were still looked down upon but because mestizos were large in number they had many work opportunities.
We see the same in Brazil, but there is also a high amount of African slaves being brought over as well which add into the mixture of races. Because of this, around three centuries of colonial rule, a large amount of the people were wither of full or partial African descent. Only 10% estimated was through marriage, many of the mixed race was through the use of concubines or "in formal liaisons." One of the groups were the Mulattoes, which was the outcome of Portuguese and African mixture. This however didn't mean that it was greatly embraced. However, unlike in North America, Mulattoes who were light skinned were able to "learn" and "pass" as being white by attaining an education and having some wealth.
North America was not at all for the mixture of races, and the outcomes of those were not as "light" as the other locations. Unlike South America, if a child or person was even a quarter black, they would simply be labeled as black and be put into slavery. Unlike South America, blacks were allowed to "produce" and have children so that there would be a continuation of slaves without having to bring them over seas.
We see that overall there are different takes on the treatment of mestizo and slaves, but overall we can see that there was always the idea of a higher race in each place. Though some may have had it "easier" than others, it was all a disturbing and brutal time in history for many people, and it is sad to say this is what our country was founded on.
